Really outstanding mountain panorama with a view of the Zugspitze awaits you during this tour. Sure, there is a road in the valley that connects Oberammergau and Ettal but this would mean that you miss the great views of the surrounding mountains. If you are looking for a scenic drive through incredible mountain scenery, you should take this route at least once. Since you are not on a highway you will always find a posibility to stop and take some pictures. And there are quite a few places where you will be tempted to stop. The scenery really is breathtaking. So take your time when travelling this road. Here the route becomes the destination.
During this tour you won’t climb any summits but you will visit a cabin that belongs to my all time favorites offering great food and spectacular views. Since you will mostly walk parallel to the mountain you can make the 3600 feet in elevation without too much strain. This tour will reward you again with great panoramic views over the Millstätter See and the mountains surrounding it.
This mountain has the nickname mountain of different worlds. You do find remarkable fields of energy that have been used already by the Celts. An exceedingly natural delight awaits you when driving this panoramic road. On this trip the jounrey is the reward and you really should take your time when driving along this road. In this post you will for once not find a description of one of my hikes but one of a drive through the high alps to Austria’s highest mountain.
The long and exhausting ascent of about 4100 ft. will be rewarded with a panorama that will literally take your breath away. It’s worth not to take the direct way through the Isar Valley if you want to walk from Scharnitz to Mittenwald. Here is the proof that this detour via the Brunnensteinspitze is really a great experience.
This tour is for the biggest part of it a rather easy walk but the ascent through the „Wolfsschlucht“ (wulf’s gorge) to the summit of the „Schildenstein“ should only be clambered up if you are in good shape and not afraid of heights. In tour books this tour is marked as difficult.
